Our House Smelt Like French Toast With This Craft

Posted by Christie Reimer on

We are in full Valentine's Day crafting mode over here in our house

We have been working on kid approved crafts, decor ideas, and gifts for classmates. This one is a great idea that can check each one of these categories off your list.

Whole wheat cinnamon salt dough ornaments. The wholewheat and cinnamon adds a bit of a rustic look, that I think adds a special touch. Now I know, you are probably wondering how this one craft can check every item off the list.

Well here a few ideas that you can use these for:

The craft part to this, and help keep kids busy is to make the dough, rolling it out, and using the cookie cutters. These make such cute gift tags, or just a special touch to wrap around your #masonjar that you have chalk painted pink, red or white (just make sure to use a straw before you bake it so you can string the hearts).

Another great idea you can do is to make enough for your kids class, add one heart, paint, and a paint brush and it becomes a cute Valentines gift.

Whole Wheat Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments:

2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour

1 Cup Salt

1 1/2 Cups of Water

4 TBSP Cinnamon

Mix all together, adding a little bit of water at a time. Add more water if it is needed. Roll out onto a floured surface, cut out different size heart shapes - now is the time to use a straw to make the cutout holes. Then bake at 275 for 2-3 hours (times and temps can vary especially depending on size of hearts).

This made 50 different size hearts for us.

My girls said for hours and hours that our house smelt like French toast while these were cooking... Guess what we had to have for dinner that night??!!!
