15 minutes is all I need.

15 minutes is all I need.

As a mom, have you heard yourself say this before?

I usually try to listen to podcasts while I am driving. I try to listen to them in the house while cleaning or cooking, but that usually does not work, so I try to cram in as much podcast as I can when driving.

Now most of the time I listen to business ones, but I try my best to listen to ones that are by moms. Not because as moms we know everything - but if you ask my kids for now they still think I do, but because moms get moms. We understand that sometimes life really does get in the way. We understand, that while multi tasking is not always the most efficient way to do things, sometimes as a mom, it is the only way to do something.

So, the other day, I was listening to said podcast, and one thing stuck in my head. You can do anything in 15 minutes. This person was also saying that for work and life, you can get so much done if you just give yourself 15 minutes, instead of trying to block out a few hours, and sometimes getting distracted, or feeling unmotivated, and then not getting done what you set out to do.

So, I figured I would give this a try. While my husband was on his days off and home, I told him, I just needed 15 minutes to add some products to my site. He loves being in the garage, but was totally fine colouring and playing princess with the girls because it was “only 15 minutes”.

Guess what? I got those products posted, and even tidied my desk in that time.

Another time, after dinner, the girls were playing, and I said, that I was just going to go on the treadmill for 15 minutes. Immediately I went down, and ran for 15 minutes. When the time was done, I went back upstairs and helped my girls get ready for bed. Usually when I run, I like to run anywhere from 30-60 minutes, and it seems to happen less and less, because, well, finding the time to take that hour away from all the chaos in life and work seems impossible. But I have actually been able to find multiple times during the day to do 15 minutes.

While my kids were on spring break, I swear the kitchen just looks like it exploded. They are always having snacks. Usually I am constantly trying to tidy it, but never completely clean it until they go to bed.

I put a show on, and told my girls that they could watch a show for 15 minutes. They were so excited, they watched that show uninterrupted, and I was able to power through cleaining the whole kitchen in less than 15 minutes!! Mom win!

Things you can do in 15 minutes:
  • 10 minute workout

  • Tidy up your desk

  • Make your bed

  • Clean out a drawer in the kitchen

  • Wash the floors

  • Pack snacks and lunch for tomorrow

  • Meal prep for next week

  • Read a chapter or two

  • Purge some of the kids old toys

  • Use a face mask

  • Do nothing

  • Watch a bit of a show

  • Colour or play with the kids

  • Go outside
